Warlocks: The good, the bad, the ignorant, a pvp perspective

Tenko — Thu, 07/24/2008 - 6:15pm

First I'm going to start with an introduction of myself.  Tenko was the first character created by me on Nov 23rd 2004.  I have played her non stop since then.  I have only 1 other character that made it to 70 and 2 others to 60 (both pre BC).  I will always play my lock until i decide to not play this game any longer.  I have raided, pvp'd and now Arena.  I've been on one of the top 5's teams on the BG6 for the last 2 seasons, continuing to do well this season.  My 3's teams have finished 10th, 14th, in season 1 and 2 runnig the same comp (resto shaman, warlock, mage) and were gladiators again in season 3.  This will be an attempt  to explain whats strong about the warlock class, whats wrong and dispel the myth we are the overpowered class.

R-Shaman/Lock/Mage vs R-Shaman/Ret Paladin/Warrior

Tenko — Tue, 07/22/2008 - 5:01pm

One of your more popular double melee teams Resto Shaman/ Ret Paladin and a Warrior.  Its scary to fight because of the RNG factor of Windfury.  This movie is the same as the last one....slow motion first part w/ commentary then full speed with vent.  This hopefuly will be the last one that you can't hear me on vent for the second part.  Comments/Questions post them and we'll do our best to answer/respond to them.

Shaman/Mage/Lock vs Rogue/Priest/Mage

Tenko — Mon, 07/21/2008 - 11:01pm

Okay most of the commentary is in the video itself.  It will be up on our guild site before too long and you'll be able to stream it from there.  In the meantime i'll provide the filefront link to the video where you can download it and watch.  Basically this video is one fight played twice.  The first time through i'll explain whats going on in as best detail as i can and the second time through will be with vent commentary.  in this particular one you can't hear my voice in the vent commentary and thats why there are long periods of silence.

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to post them and our team will try to respond as best we can.  This fight sequence is not perfect from us by any means but it does show our oddball combo and how it can work in this bracket.  More videos will follow.  I have a double melee (ret paladin/warrior/druid) team in raw form and hopefull by tuesday the 22nd i'll have it up.

One thing i don't note in the commentary is when Melna got sheeped midway through the fight i devoured him as soon as my felhunter had LoS.

Ret Paladins and 5v5

Tenko — Tue, 07/15/2008 - 2:34pm

This is a fairly easy topic because there are not that many 5v5 combos for ret paladins but they do exist.

First off ret paladins are better off sticking to the 3v3 bracket as it is by far their best one.  Find a warrior and either a resto shaman or resto druid and go to town.  There isn't a lot to these groups, just pound on stuff and if you play with a druid and a healer has to trinket cyclone look for a hammer/repetance followed by a warrior fear.

Anyway getting off topic the discussion was supposed to be focused on ret paladins roles in 5v5.  Now I firmly believe paladins best spec in 5's is holy but if you want to be a dps class you hvae that option.  I have not seen high level teams utilizing ret paladins but that doesn't mean they aren't viable.

First makeup is the end of season 3 flavor team "cleave" find yourself 2 healers and 3 melee dps (ret paladin can be one of them) queue up and zerg down clothies.  Priests hate you and warlocks hate this combo because it turns us into a pinata.  More complex strats include peeling the rogue (assuming you have one) and having do damage to a mage/priest further straining the other teams healing as 2 targets have MS on them and are taking damage or having the melee jump off the lock for a quick switch to the locks pet.

Resto Shaman/Frost Mage/Warlock vs Double Melee

Tenko — Wed, 06/18/2008 - 1:32pm

Another requested topic by an anonymous user.

As much as this may suprise people we really don't have much of a problem with double melee teams.  There is one melee combination that gives us problems but we havn't seen many of them so its not that big of a deal.  Most double melee teams run warrior/rogue, warrior/ret paladin, or warrior/enhancement shaman.  The one that actually gives us problems isn't any of those but a rare form, hunter/rogue.
