And not just any planet, but every planet for that matter.

The best concert I have been to was about 10 years ago or so. It was A Perfect Circle before they were known, White Zombie and then Pantera. It was just awesome.

You didn;t see A Perfect Circle Malb, you saw TOOL. How do I know this, this is how; Tool has been signed for 10+ years now as Undertow, their first breakthrough album, was relased in 1993. A Perfect Circle formed in 1997, but never recorded anything untill 2000 and was mainly Tool lead singer Maynard James Keenan's side project. So there ya go Malb. In better news, you saw the better of the two bands by far and away. Tool ftw.
Also: Daft Punk puts on the best live show ever- don't front
Usually I don't listen to rock that much, but TOOL is probably one of my favorite bands of all times. I'd love to check them out live. I hear their live show is one of the sickest things to see.
I would have loved to see TOOL during the lateralus tour, but i'm still going to see them this spring :-)

Tool does not have a giant LED pyramid, they lose. On a side note, those boys do create unbelievable music.

would have been so amazing to be at that show...
It wasn't Tool, I was mistaken with APC. The opening act was Deftones. But Slam knows his music hisotry. I would have known if it was Tool (which I saw at later concerts) and I was like hmm I obviously am wrong about it being APC then. Deftones were eh, but WZ was ****ing awesome, especially when they dropped crucifed clowns from the rafters, it was sweet.

but yea maynard-esque stuff is pretty gewd
also what exactly are those dudes on stage DOING during all this... just operating the thing that has their music recorded on it? no one actually plays any isntruments. looks like theyre just rockin out being robots.
I was wondering the same thing, do they just press play and look pretty or do they actually control each specific sound thingy.

They mix their tracks and hit samplers, standard DJ ****. Google video has a clip of them in 1996 in Wisconsin and you can just hear them mix their ****. Some of what they do is analogue phasing, tone adjustment and some of other DJ tricks as well. If they truly wanted to, they could just pre-record everything, but Daft Punk cares enormously about their artistic integrity, so they make a set list and a mix list for every show they play and switch it up. The technicality behind what they are doing is unbeliveable, so their list has to be rehearsed, practiced and mastered way before they decide to reproduce it live. Although many segments remain unchanged throughout their set, certain mixes were retooled and certain tracks were mixed differently throughout their 2006 season, which was only 10 or so super large festivals around the world. In particular, I noticed big differences between the California show at Coachella and a number of their European shows.
There ya go :P

especially in that video where the part they are supposed to see out of looks black, on top of it not being very well lit up there.
All the sounds are stored on external sound banks, ie just a computer with a big ****ing hard drive that keeps everything. They use their midi controllers to trigger I would say more then half of the sounds that they have. The rest is automatically triggered by an external sequencer (a computer with pro tools).
Usually the external sequencer has most of the drums and other instruments that can't be replicated / played with the degree of precision needed. Sometimes they have a live drummer in the background to mix it up. MOst of the stuff that they are playing are just hooks, or bass. Things that can easily be played on a keyboard, drum machine as well as real time Digital Signal Processing (effects such as reverb, delay, oscilators, etc). This is extremely common for live acts, especially electronic ones.
Being one of the original electronic live acts these guys have it down to a science, and I myself would love to see everything behind the scenes.

Yeah you are likely right Nugs, it's highly doubtful they are still using the same **** they did in 1996. They are masters of the mix, but most of what they are doing has to be triggers and a background sequencer at this point.
That's what midi is all about, being able to trigger 5 different keyboards, 2 sequencers and 3 drum machines all from one keyboard or midi controller.

Ya, there is tons of Midi going on with their ****.
What is even more insane is their recording process. In order to acheive many of their sounds, they use old analog synths, midi processors and guitars and do reverse filtering of each. For example: they will play the guitar, record it, put it though a midi processor and alter the sound through a synth and then take that sound and use it as a base sound through which either a guitar or keyboard can then be filtered through again. It's ****ing insane, but these guys are the masters.

Speaking of the phattest of beats, anyone like Rjd2? I recently purchased Deadringer and oh boy oh boy my ears are in heaven. Catch me on AIM and have a listen.

RJD2 Is a Chicago favorite, so of course I am familiar. As well Twista, Common and R Kelly are all Chicago locals. I got plenty of buddies to piss on people with around here.
