Default How to apply to GC

Welcome to the recruitment forum of Gentlemen’s Club (GC). If you have found your way here you are likely perusing to acquire information on how to properly apply to GC or you are killing time at work. At the root of GC we are a raiding guild as it is our lively-hood most evenings. While many of our players enjoy and are accomplished player killers, at the heart of an applicant we are looking for an individual that can contribute to the guild and our raids through intellectual domain, raiding prowess and a general disposition to work within and for a team.

As one would readily assume, the responsibility of a member to perform at the utmost skill and appreciation of “hardcore” raiding can be highly taxing to individuals. The dedication of your time, patience, commitment and motivation is essential for GC or any raiding guild to progress and reward its members for the sacrifices made. The grass is always greener. We aren’t looking for members who are jaded at their last guild over a single piece of loot. We are looking for members that feel that GC would be a good fit and natural progression for themselves and their characters.

GC is an adult guild in that the majority of players are adults covering a vast range of ages, professions and real life responsibilities. And thus the commentary within the guild varies from serious debates to completely off-color highly controversial topics. While indulging in our nightly raid or just shooting the proverbial “shit”, an open mind and quick wit will often be your greatest tools. Expect to be criticized, joked about and expect to fire back. We at GC sometimes like our hardcore humor as much if not more as we like our hardcore raiding.

Given that we at GC hold each other accountable at high level of performance of maturity and actions, we bathe our applicants in the same light. Below is a list of global requirements for any application to be reviewed and several class specific requirements. It is imperative that you review these pre-requisites for if any are not met your application will likely be locked and not reviewed.

**Disclaimer** These minimum expectations as of May 30, 2007 are subject to change and will be changed to fit our current need and level of progression.

I. Raiding Schedules
  1. We raid Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday starting at 6:30pm (central standard time) and finish typically around 12:30am.
  2. If your availability keeps you from regularly being on at least 4 of these nights for the full duration, GC is unlikely for you as you will fall behind.

II. Raiding Expectations

  1. You must be able to supply your own elixirs, potions and flasks, or what we commonly refer to as “juice”
  2. Regardless if the encounter is repetitious or foreign you will be expected to “juice” with a high level of regularity.
  3. We use Ventrilo for communication. It is required for you to have a working microphone for rapid communication.
  4. It is up to each member of the guild to frequently keep abreast of posted strategies, videos or any other aids that will help achieve our PvE goals.
  5. While it goes without saying, I will anyways. Be punctual, have a general positive mindset, and be considerate of the raids time. Constant afk’ing, consistently leaving early in the evening, making the same mistakes repetitiously will be dealt with swiftly and certainly not in your favor. We expect the majority if not all your focus for hours on end.

III. Raiding Experience:

We are ideally looking for exceptional candidates with a broad and successful history of raiding. The more you can convince us you have knowledge and the mindset to function with your character in a larger scenario of people and demands, the more likely we will look your way. However, while a breadth of raiding experience is sought, those that can learn rapidly bring much more to the table. We can’t fix stupid, but we can certainly teach someone how to raid. Keep this in mind on your application as both experience and intellect will be immediately judged.

IV. Class Specific Requirements and Class Availability

I will start by addressing class availability. A guild and its membership are often too dynamic to use absolutes such as “closed”. While most if not all our classes do not frequently recruit (if we have done our job correctly, we will rarely recruit), we are always on the lookout for upcoming quality members. Providing that you meet the minimum requirements listed within this thread, it is always better to submit an application than not. In the event that we are quickly seeking a specific class or role filler, it will most likely be posted separately in the recruitment forum.

Most of our requirements are gear based and will be addressed or commented on your application by the officers and guildmates bored at work. However, here are a quick few helpful hints on how not to draw negative attention:

  1. Do not skimp on enchant or gem quality, members will sniff that out before your armory is done downloading.
  2. If you are missing upgrades that would otherwise be obtainable through badge turn-ins, you should be prepared with a valid reason in which to why you have not had the time to obtain the needed quantity.
  3. Skills and professions. If you want to be considered as a serious raider then your professions should reflect that choice. Your professions should give you the optimal advantage for a raiding environment. For example, even though I dearly love LIFEBLOOM!, if you apply with mining and herbalism, you might as well delete your gcguild account and never look back unless you like crying. The lack of maximum profession skill will be questioned and looked down upon as a lack of care of upkeep and pride of your character/play time.
  4. The quality of your gear is a direct reflection of either your play time, raiding experience or both. Informing us you play 80 hours a week and then missing easily crafted or obtained gear will make you look foolish.

How to Apply

If you wish to apply to GC, first and foremost you should have read the above post pertaining to minimum requirements and expectations.

Please elaborate where you feel it would benefit your application. Take pride and time in your writing as it will be the first and most immediate snap-judgment of you. Sentence fragments, incoherent thoughts and rambling will indicate that applying to GC wasn’t an event you had any desire to take seriously.

The questions of the application below need to be copied into the application you post with your responses immediately following, in order. Please do not just post answers to the questions.

*The Application*

1. What is your character name/class/race/is English your 1st language? If you are not max level, do not waste your time and more importantly our time.

2. Do you have a reference from GC who told you to apply? If so, who and how do you know them?

3. Link your Armory profile and screenshot of your ui. LOG OUT IN YOUR PVE GEAR. If your armory does not represent your raiding gear set-up, do not expect a quick or meaningful reply. Please explain the extra detail that may not be displayed by your Armory and that you feel is important to note. Why are you specced the way that you currently are? Again, be detailed as this will be the most analyzed section of your application.

4. What Glyphs would you use for your pve raid spec and why?

5. List any WWS or WMO parses you may have. If you don't have one, get one -- WMO is free.

6. List your typical playtime for each day of the week.

7. Why are you interested in joining GC, and what are your goals once guilded?

8. Are you on Korgath? If not what server?

9. Make up your own question, then answer your question.

10. Detail your MMO background and prior raid experience. Detail your raiding expertise or lack there of (Direct most of this towards WoW, though if you have an exceptional story or background from another game please share). If you were in a major guild (top 3 of your team/server) in the past or recent, please detail your role within the guild and why you left. Even if you were not in a “major” guild please list the most recent 2 guilds and your role and why you left. DO NOT make a list of the last 20guilds you have been a member of. Detail anything that you feel would help give us insight to your value as a raider.

11. List references and means of contact. If you have any friendships/ingame experience with current GC members please elaborate.

12. What movie have you seen more times than any other?

13. How old are you? What do you do for a living?

14. Were you ever an officer or obtained a leadership position of your past guild(s), if so explain your role.

15. Do you have internet reliability? Disconnecting frequently is not acceptable for raiding. How good is your computer? Do you get low fps on aoe intense fights?

16. Are you the original owner of your account? If not explain. No, this isn’t a trap and using a friends account or how ever you acquired the character does not void you from joining and raiding. However, if it discovered that you falsely claimed ownership of the character you are applying with, you will be removed from raiding capacity with the current or any other characters from other accounts.

17. Have you ever had an online relationship with the opposite sex. Did you ever fly to meet them or vice versa? Was this relationship in WoW? Did it end? If not why are you letting it persist? Does she or he know it's a dead end? Have you ever wanted to have an online relationship, if so with whom?

18. Amaze us with your theorycrafting abilities. This is your opportunity to show us how much you know about your class. You may provide us with any spreadsheets or combat sim logs that will aid your explanations. DO NOT simply make a list of things someone told you to do, tell us WHY.

19. How did you hear about our guild?
