Death Knight DW Tanking interested...

  1. Hi, I am just a casual player on the EU servers, and I have been following Mayong thread regarding end game tanking on the US DK class forums. I need some advice myself, but since I can´t post there I have taken the liberty to post here. My DK is my alt at the moment and I am by no means a raider at all, haven´t seen half of the content which the game provides. But with my characters I always like to have a set goal to reach or otherwise the game becomes to dull for my taste. Now I wish for my DK to be able to tank effiecently with the gear alternatives that are provided for me through my casual playstyle. And now I am focusing the most on DW tanking since I love DW and all that it is about.

Here is a "wish list" that I have put together with HC drops, crafts & emblems buyable gear. Take a look: http://www.wowhead.com/?profile=14376793

As you may notice it´s a mix of very good gear and some very bad. I read that you, Mayong, did gem for the socket bonus if it was a stamina one with hit/sta and exp/sta...and I have read by you and Desc that one shouldn´t be gemming for +def since the gear should provide with enough. Now being a DK with subpar +def gear and not using the SSG on my weapons it seems that I can´t reach the def cap. That is why I have gemmed on some places with def/sta instead since you can see that I am quite good on the expertise aswell as suffiecient in hit. I am wondering what advice could you give me with this profile?

Not entirely true. I gemmed for defense when the expansion first hit. It's better to gem a few slots for defense, and use the new badge sigil than to use that sigil.

As for your DW tanking I'm not sure that that's the best idea for your gear level. You can make it work though, but right now you have far too many hit rating pieces. You only need 5% to cap specials as DW Frost so you're a bit over that. I also don't really like the Direbrew trinkets as they have no on use or other passive effect. I'd grab the armor trinket from ToC instead of at least one.

Other than that you might find that a casual playstyle can accomodate running 10 man CC as it's only 5 bosses, and there's no trash. This would help up your gear a considerable amount.
