Where is my extra point better off for raiding?

  1. Cont. from the recruitment post.

So you did miss the point. k. I'll put my extra point into the ret tree so it can help in a raiding environment MORE than less mana cost on cleanse. I'll also max out imp righteous fury while I'm at it so I can pull aggro and make use of my point in parry when I start tanking with my healing gear.

Which would you like to talk about first: current boss encounters or future boss encounters? I won't consider trash because, well, it's trash.
  3. Current. Pre-Sunwell because that's where the spec question came from. Tell me where the extra point is more useful and then, why.

First, I'm not trying to persuade you to put the point elsewhere. All I'm saying is that you shouldn't be like "yeah dude, Cleansing Power is the shit!" or think it's a necessary paladin talent. For a Imp BoM spec, if you want to put it there cool, I don't care. Ultimately, it doesn't have a significant impact.

Second, I'm not getting annoyed with you. If I were, I would have just stopped talking about this a long time ago.

Here are the encounters that paladins currently use Cleanse on:

Hyjal: None. Maybe dispell some random healer/huntard on Archimonde before they run into a fire, but I think I've done that maybe 5 times in since I've been killing Archimonde (1-2 months before I joined this guild).

    BT: Teron, RoS.

Before continuing, let's assume we're working with a 12k mana pool, which means that Cleanse costs 720 mana without the 1 point and 684 with the 1 point. With the 1 point, you save 36 mana per Cleanse.

Now let's consider each boss encounter from that list:

Teron: Typically there are 2 paladins dispelling here. Every 15-30 seconds he single targets somebody with Incinerate, which we must Cleanse off. Since our priority is removing Incinerate, I almost never use Holy Light because I need to be ready to Cleanse somebody. I'm also healing up people who take Incinerate damage. Considering those two facts, I almost always using max rank FoL for the whole encounter. I can spam cast FoL for 10+ minutes without potting easily. Even with terrible dps, this encounter doesn't take anywhere near 10+ minutes. Therefore, since my mana pool never drops below 90%, Purifying Power is a talent that has no significant impact on me. For the sake of the argument, let's do the math anyways. Let's say I use Cleanse 7 times, which is a reasonable number, and my mana pool is 12k. With 1 point in the talent, I'll save 252 mana during the course of the fight. What will I do with that extra mana? Nothing because I'm too focused on removing debuffs and spamming FoL.

RoS: This is an even easier argument than Teron. During this fight, paladins use Cleanse only in phase 1. Again, there are 2 paladins dispelling here. Last fight we did I remove 11 debuffs, Aubrey removed 1 and a shadow priest removed 1. Let's say Aubrey didn't have his "A game" and a normal number of Cleanses for each paladin would be 6. Similar to Teron, you'll save 6*36=216 mana for the whole fight. On the other hand, you're doing nothing but Cleansing and BoPing in phase 1 due to the fight mechanics. Even at this point, you'll regen most of that mana back since you'll have the 5 second rule in effect since you're not casting heals. Forget regen though because at the end of this phase, your mana gets topped off by the ghosts that spawn. Again, no use for the extra mana.

The only place you'd actually get decent mileage out of this talent and the only place I've ever heard of a paladin talking about using this talent is for Hyjal trash, but that's also because you get to benefit Holy Wrath and Exorcism. The Cleanse component of this talent would only help you on the infernal waves of the Azgalor trash.

In conclusion, I'd say use this talent if a fight existed where you were having mana problems and you also happen to be using Cleanse. A fight like that doesn't exist, so I can't logically suggest anybody use it. Conversely, I can't logically suggest anybody not use it. It just has no significant impact.

I will say, however, that this talent would be pretty money for PvP because I sure as hell dispell more in arenas than I do in PvE.

    Chromaggus.
  7. Twohearted, I wish I could say I'm not annoyed by this conversation. I'm not like omfg pissed, I just want to bash my head against the wall on why you're not understanding this and tbh, if you don't get it after this, just drop it. You are either fucking with me or just too "I'm right and you're wrong attitude" to understand it. My entire point in one sentence:

Purifying power is still more useful then ANYTHING in the ret or prot tree for raiding as it saves mana (for the most part, we have zero issues with mana but still, it's a point).

You ran the numbers. You save 216 mana. Yes, that's hardly ANYTHING but guess what, it's something. Parry rating is not a raid talent. If you need to parry, guess what, someone else fucked up.

    You're entire post was this:

"Here's how useful purifying power is."

No, that's not what was asked. Where is my point BETTER off is the question and why?

I'm not wrong on this and if anyone thinks I am, please by all means give me the reason why. I'm like in shock that a good paladin like yourself doesn't get this. :p

WTB some real talents so we can have an actual debate on what's better.
  8. Twohearted Guild Member

Personally, if I were doing that spec and considering how useful Purifying Power is, I'd put it in prot just to make doing dailies easier.
  9. Twohearted Guild Member

The thing of it is that paladins can raid with a 41/20 PvP spec and be just as, if not more effective, than a 43/18 paladin. I don't know if other healing classes have this problem, but once you get the core holy talents, the usefulness of the other talents you can get in that tree just drops dramatically.
  10. Oh definitly. I'm in no way saying the talent is amazing, just better off putting it there if you're going for a hardcore pve spec. For farming, I respec prot. Once I got to a certain level of gear, there is no better way to farm then prot aoe grinding.
  11. Twohearted Guild Member

I dunno...I find grinding as holy very effective. I never have to drink and I do tons of damage.
  12. I do the cookie cutter aoe shadowmoon valley pulls. I have to drink after each pull but 1st pull is 30 mobs, 2nd is like 18 and the last is over 30. Takes about 12 minutes for all 3 and back to the 1st again. Insane gold and can watch tv while doing it :p

  14. remember with 2.4 changes, nearly all dispelling of multiple people simultaneously will probably be done by priests.
  15. That would definitly make parrying better then.
  16. lol

  18. Which pulls in SMV would that be?
